XRobotics just launched a pizza-making robot that’s small enough to fit on counters and can crank out 100 pizzas an hour. The San Francisco startup calls it the xPizza Cube. It uses machine learning to spread sauce, cheese, and pepperoni precisely.

The machine leases for $1,300 a month on a three-year plan. It works with multiple pizza styles, including Detroit and Chicago deep dish. The goal: save pizza kitchens 70-80% of prep time.

Denis Rodionov, co-founder and CEO, said:

“This saves like almost 70, sometimes 80% of the time for the staff,” Denis Rodionov, the co-founder and CEO of XRobotics, told TechCrunch. “It is just repeatable work. If you have a pepperoni pizza, you need to place 50 slices of pepperoni one by one.”

XRobotics isn’t the first to target pizza robotics. Zume raised $420 million to build pizza robot trucks before shifting to packaging and shutting down in 2023. Rodionov said XRobotics succeeded by focusing on assistive tech, small enough to slot into existing kitchens. Not full automation, but helping pizza makers save time.

Their first robot launched in 2021 was a huge machine handling 20+ toppings but was too bulky to work well. They pivoted to a compact version in 2023 — a move Rodionov called “tremendous success.”

The company declined to reveal customer numbers but said their robots produce 25,000 pizzas per month. They recently secured $2.5 million in seed funding from FinSight Ventures, SOSV, MANA Ventures, and Republic Capital. The cash will go to scaling production and deployment.

XRobotics plans to expand from the US to Mexico and Canada. The US alone has 73,000 pizza chains, a massive market. Rodionov noted personal love for pizza testing in San Francisco, New York, and Chicago. Detroit-style pizza is his top pick.
