WhatsApp just launched Message Summaries, a new AI-powered feature that sums up unread messages in chats. Users can tap the unread message count, and WhatsApp generates a quick bulleted summary.
The tech uses Meta’s Private Processing to keep data private. WhatsApp says not even Meta or third parties can read your messages or summaries. Chat participants won’t see your summaries either.
This feature is off by default. You can control which chats share data for AI via the “Advanced chat privacy” settings.
For now, Message Summaries is live only in the US and in English. WhatsApp plans to add more regions and languages later this year.
