WhatsApp just launched AI-powered Message Summaries in the U.S. The feature uses on-device Private Computing to keep chats private.
The new tool scans your messages and generates quick summaries — without sending data to WhatsApp servers. This means your chat history stays on your phone.
The rollout is part of WhatsApp’s push to add AI without compromising privacy. The company says the summaries will make catching up on conversations faster and easier.
WhatsApp also emphasized the feature only works in the U.S. so far, signaling a cautious regional launch.
The app’s blog states:
“With Private Computing, your messages remain encrypted on your device and aren’t shared with WhatsApp or others.”
“Your iPhone or Android device does the hard work of summarizing messages locally, keeping your conversations safe while making AI useful.”
Users can enable the feature in chat settings. Early feedback is still coming in, but WhatsApp is pushing hard on privacy-first AI.
Expect this to expand globally soon, as demand for AI chat helpers rises amid privacy concerns.
