U.S. government vaccine site hit by AI spam hack
A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) vaccine info site was defaced and now hosts AI-generated spam. The site, hosted on an official government domain, displays mostly gay-themed and LGBTQ+ posts, all apparently auto-generated.
The tampering has lasted since at least May 12, per archived snapshots. Who’s behind the hack or their motive remains unknown.
This infection is part of a larger spam operation targeting major domains, including ones owned by NPR, Nvidia, and Stanford University. All redirect to a nonsense SEO spam page hosted on wowlazy.com, according to 404 Media. Journalist Sam Cole calls it “a nonsense SEO spam page.”
HHS has not responded to requests for comment.
