The Trump administration launched a massive AI plan to boost US tech and cut what it calls “bureaucratic red tape” and “ideological bias.” The 28-page AI Action Plan lists 90+ policy moves set to roll out within a year.
The plan aims to build data center infrastructure, promote American AI tech, and ditch federal rules slowing AI development. It also pushes using AI across government and private sectors. Trump is expected to sign three executive orders Wednesday. One opens exports of US AI tech abroad. Another targets “woke” or biased AI systems.
David Sacks, Trump administration crypto czar, said:
> “We believe we’re in an AI race, and we want the United States to win that race.”
> “American development of AI systems must be free from ideological bias or engineered social agendas.”
> “With the right government policies, the United States can solidify its position as the leader in AI and secure a brighter future for all Americans.”
Sacks also highlighted the plan’s focus on preventing AI misuse or theft and watching for new risks.
The move aims to keep the US ahead of China in AI power. Sacks called AI “a revolutionary technology” critical to economic and national security dominance.
Critics slammed the plan as a big win for Big Tech, not the public. Sarah Myers West, co-executive director of the AI Now Institute, said:
> “The White House AI Action plan was written by and for tech billionaires, and will not serve the interests of the broader public.”
> “[T]he administration’s stance prioritizes corporate interests over the needs of everyday people who are all already being affected by AI.”
Trump’s plan reverses parts of Biden’s 2023 AI safety order, which Trump scrapped on his first day. It also follows a recent Nvidia chip sale loosening to China and a budget fight over AI rules. Congress removed a 10-year ban on states regulating AI from the budget bill.
A former Biden official, Jim Secreto, said:
> “Accelerating innovation is essential, but dismantling responsible guardrails risks turning America’s AI revolution into a reckless gamble.”
> “Promoting aggressive AI exports without reasonable controls strengthens China’s hand.”
Officials said the plan was shaped by 10,000+ public comments. The White House says it wants the US to lead AI without ideology or heavy regulation.
