ChatGPT is proving useful for one teacher, despite early doubts.
The journalist and educator tried ChatGPT nervously, worried it might flag her or be unethical given her focus on media ethics. Spoiler: she ended up loving it.
She’s been using AI daily to customize lessons and make tutoring more effective. ChatGPT helps simplify tricky topics like first grade fractions and creates quizzes on everything from India’s monsoon season to spotting fake news—all faster than making dinner.
She even used it to build a study guide for The Outsiders and saw her son score an A.
The tough part? ChatGPT won’t replace the human side of teaching—comforting a stressed kid, spotting illness, or figuring out why some math concepts click and others don’t.
Still, she says AI saves her time by handling lesson plans and study guides, letting her focus on connecting with students.
She admits feeling a little guilty asking AI to tidy her writing, but sees it as a practical tool worth exploring going forward.
“I’m glad I took a leap of faith, and I plan on exploring AI as it continues to grow,” she said.
