Google is launching new editing features in Google Photos that let users modify pictures by simply asking. The feature goes live Wednesday and will debut on Pixel 10 phones in the U.S. first.
“Edit by asking” uses natural language commands via voice or text. You can tell it to “remove the cars in the background,” “restore this old photo,” or even request creative touches like adding sunglasses or a party hat. The AI, powered by Gemini, handles lighting tweaks, distraction removal, background swaps, and more.
If you’re unsure what to say, just ask “make it better” and Google Photos will suggest fixes and start tweaking automatically. Follow-up commands let you fine-tune edits step by step.
Pixel 10 phones will also get support for C2PA Content Credentials. This new standard helps track image creation and flags if AI was involved. It integrates directly with the Pixel Camera app and all photos taken on the device, regardless of AI use. Google plans to roll C2PA out to other Pixel phones and Google Photos on iOS and Android in the coming weeks.
The launch was part of Wednesday’s Made by Google event in San Francisco.
