Suno just bought browser-based AI DAW WavTool to boost its music editing power. The deal was revealed Thursday, though financial terms remain secret. Most WavTool staff have joined Suno’s product and engineering teams.

WavTool launched in 2023 with stem separation, AI audio generation, and an AI music assistant. Suno plans to fold those features into its new editing interface, which dropped this month.

The acquisition comes amid fresh legal heat. Country singer Tony Justice and 5th Wheel Records sued Suno in early May, claiming copyright infringement for using their recordings to train AI.

This echoes last year’s lawsuits from Universal, Warner, and Sony Music. Major labels are reportedly in licensing talks with Suno, Bloomberg says.

WavTool was taken offline in November after Suno quietly acquired it months earlier. The timing of this announcement appears aimed at shifting attention from legal troubles and calming nerves after the company’s $125 million funding round in May.

A Suno spokesperson commented:

“Most” of the WavTool employees moved to Suno’s product and engineering teams, although the exact number of those who did not make the move wasn’t revealed.
