Sam Altman Frequently Asked ChatGPT Questions About His Newborn

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says he’s been using ChatGPT nonstop to figure out his crying baby — and now, toddler talks.

Altman spilled this on OpenAI’s new podcast. He called himself “extremely kid-pilled” and admitted he relied on ChatGPT for baby behavior questions in his son’s first weeks. Now, he’s turning to it for broader development stage stuff.

Altman was blunt about it:

“I mean, clearly, people have been able to take care of babies without ChatGPT for a long time,” Altman said. “I don’t know how I would’ve done that.”

The CEO knows AI hallucinations are still a problem — but late-night parents pulling info from Google or Facebook groups haven’t exactly been safer.

Altman also raised a bigger point about kids growing up with AI as their norm. He shared a viral video where a toddler taps on a magazine thinking it’s an iPad. For kids born today, AI is just always there.

Former OpenAI science communicator Andrew Mayne told a story about a parent using ChatGPT in voice mode just to chat with their kid about Thomas the Tank Engine. The kid kept on for an hour.

Altman added:

“Kids love voice mode.”

The AI comes with risks. OpenAI’s policy says kids under 13 shouldn’t use ChatGPT. No parental controls exist yet. Altman admits problems will come.

“It’s not all going to be good. There will be problems,” Altman said. “People will develop these somewhat problematic, or maybe very problematic parasocial relationships, and society will have to figure out new guardrails.”

Still, Altman says the upside is huge. He’s betting billions to build AI smarter than humans and believes society will handle the downsides.

“The upsides will be tremendous!” Altman said. “Society in general is good at figuring how to mitigate the downsides.”
