RealSense is splitting from Intel after 14 years to scale faster. The 3D imaging camera company, known for stereoscopic and infrared tech used in robotics, drones, autonomous vehicles, and facial authentication, is now independent.

CEO Nadav Orbach, who started at Intel in 2006, led the spinout with approval from former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. RealSense raised a $50 million Series A from Intel Capital and other investors to boost growth.

Orbach said they saw a surge in demand as AI advanced and new markets opened—robotics remains the hottest segment, but they’ve found use cases from fish farms tracking volume to Chipotle monitoring food containers with RealSense cams.

Nadav Orbach stated:

“The common denominator of all of them is they live in the real, physical world,” CEO Nadav Orbach told TechCrunch. “They need to understand the surroundings in 3D and based on that, take and plan actions right in the world. And for that, they need a real-time, high-accuracy ability to understand the surrounding in 3D. And that’s what we do best.”

Orbach called raising outside capital a humbling first-time CEO experience. The fresh funds will go toward ramping up the sales team and improving tech focused on safe human-robot interactions and better access control.

Nadav Orbach added:

“There is a learning curve of, you know, stepping out,” Orbach said. “I’m extremely excited about that. I’m fortunate to have a very strong team with a lot of people in my team that that have entrepreneurial experience. I feel that with my background, together with with some strong teammates, I think we have the right mix for success. And for me, it’s a dream coming true.”

RealSense aims to expand its footprint and keep pace with rising interest in 3D perception tech driven by AI’s push into real-world robotics and automation.
