Google DeepMind rolled out a new version of its AI model Perch. The update expands its bioacoustic analysis capabilities across a wider range of animals. Now, Perch can decode audio from Hawaiian honeycreepers to coral reefs.
Scientists gather tons of sound data using microphones and underwater hydrophones. Sorting through this audio is a huge task. Perch helps by processing the data fast, letting researchers focus on fieldwork protecting endangered species.
The model is open and available on Kaggle, ready for use by conservationists everywhere.
