OpenAI pulls Jony Ive promo video after trademark lawsuit hits its device startup io
OpenAI has pulled a video spotlighting CEO Sam Altman and Apple design legend Jony Ive from its site and YouTube. The clip promoted their $6.5 billion acquisition of Ive and Altman’s device startup, io.
The issue started when AI device maker IYO sued OpenAI over the “io” name. A judge issued a restraining order, forcing OpenAI to remove all materials referencing io. The court is concerned the promo video might confuse consumers.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the acquisition is not off track despite the legal bump.
“deal is on track and has NOT dissolved or anything of the sort.”
The video still shows up on X for now. TechCrunch reached out to OpenAI for comment.
