Mistral and Nvidia join forces to boost Europe’s AI muscle
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is pushing ‘sovereign AI’ hard in Europe. He says countries need AI built around their own language, culture, and tech setups.
During a recent European tour, Huang announced big partnerships and investments across key cities. He flagged Europe’s heavy dependence on US tech giants. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are on board, backing national AI projects.
The EU is planning four AI gigafactories to cut reliance on US cloud providers and ramp up local innovation. Nvidia is signing up to supply chips for these factories. Startups like Mistral aim to lead in homegrown AI tech.
Energy costs and limited resources pose real risks. Experts warn that without big, ongoing investment Europe might fall behind U.S. hyperscalers.
Jensen Huang stated:
"Nations must develop AI rooted in their own language, culture and infrastructure."
