Nvidia is resuming sales of its H20 AI chips to China after the US government agreed to remove export licensing restrictions.

The move comes after months of limits that blocked Nvidia from shipping even its less powerful AI chips to the Chinese market.

CEO Jensen Huang spoke at the China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing on Wednesday. He praised China’s open-source AI and its startups, calling them a “catalyst for global progress” and saying they are “revolutionising” supply chains worldwide.

Huang highlighted Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, saying it’s “giving every country and industry a chance to join the AI revolution.”

The Biden administration’s deal reportedly allows Nvidia to sell again in exchange for rare earth materials from China. Nvidia confirmed it is filing licensing applications aiming to restart deliveries soon.

“The US government has assured Nvidia that licenses will be granted, and Nvidia hopes to start deliveries soon,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Nvidia also announced plans for a new chip called the RTX Pro GPU, designed with US export rules in mind for Chinese customers.

The announcement boosted global tech stocks, pushing Nasdaq to another record high and lifting Hong Kong shares.

This development comes amid ongoing US concerns over China’s military use of advanced chips. But Nvidia now navigates a complex trade landscape where China hosts 650 companies from 60 countries at its supply chain expo, positioning itself as a critical global player.

“AI is transforming every industry from scientific research and healthcare to energy, transportation and logistics,” Huang said at the expo.

“China is really fashioning itself as a champion for free trade and this global supply chain expo is about positioning China as a crucial part of that global logistic infrastructure,” Al Jazeera’s Katrina Yu reported from Beijing.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has pushed for more self-reliance amid these tensions, but Nvidia’s return signals a thaw in AI chip exports—for now.
