Nvidia scored US government approval to export its advanced H20 AI chips to China.

The green light came from the Trump administration, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Monday on China’s CGTN and in a company blog post.

Huang confirmed US officials have assured Nvidia it will receive licenses to ship H20 chips soon. He’s currently in Beijing at the China International Supply Chain Expo, meeting Chinese officials and industry leaders.

Jensen Huang stated:

"The US government has assured Nvidia that licences will be granted, and Nvidia hopes to start deliveries soon."

"Today, I’m announcing that the US government has approved for us filing licences to start shipping H20s."

"It’s so innovative and dynamic here in China that it’s really important that American companies are able to compete and serve the market here in China."

Washington’s export controls have tightened for years over national security fears. In April, the White House restricted sales of Nvidia’s H20 chips and AMD’s MI308 chips to China. Those limits were expected to cost Nvidia $5.5 billion, hurting its ability to compete in one of the biggest AI markets.

Huang recently lobbied the Trump administration to reverse those restrictions. The move to approve licenses signals a shift that could ease tensions in US-China tech trade.

Nvidia shares dipped 0.5% after hours Monday in the US but jumped 3.2% in Frankfurt trading Tuesday.

Nvidia just became the first company valued over $4 trillion, powered by fast AI adoption. This approval could open a crucial revenue stream in China’s massive AI research hub.
