Amazon has now invited over a million users to test its upgraded digital assistant, Alexa+, powered by generative AI. The service is still in invite-only Early Access mode and not publicly available yet.

Invites have been sent out gradually to customers signed up on the waitlist since the February announcement. Users have shared on social media about receiving access to Alexa+, which offers more natural language interaction, deeper smart home integration, and expanded AI-driven features.

Alexa+ is free during Early Access and will remain free for Prime members once launched publicly. Non-Prime users will pay $19.99 per month. As of May 2025, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said Alexa+ had just 100,000 users—now that number has jumped past one million.

Amazon hopes Alexa+ can finally turn its massive Alexa device base—600 million sold—into a revenue generator. The new assistant understands conversational requests like “It’s too cold in here” and will adjust your smart thermostat. It remembers user preferences, from favorite music to recipes.

With generative AI, Alexa+ can summarize emails, make unique bedtime stories, generate quizzes, plan trips, and summarize smart home activity. It also helps with buying tickets, booking dinners, and alerts on sales. Partners include OpenTable, Ticketmaster, Uber Eats, Tripadvisor, and others.

Alexa+ is currently available on Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 in the U.S. It will expand to more Echo speakers, Fire TVs, and tablets.

Users invited to test Alexa+ report mixed results. Some praise the AI as more advanced than Siri, while others say it still feels rough around the edges.

"It’s more advanced than Siri," some users said on social media,
while others commented,
"still rough around the edges."

Amazon states nearly 90% of the planned Alexa+ features have shipped ahead of full launch.
