Meta is in talks to pour over $10 billion into Scale AI, Bloomberg reports. This would be Meta’s biggest outside AI investment ever and one of the largest private funding rounds on record.
Scale AI helps train AI models with data labeling services. Its clients include Microsoft and OpenAI. Much of the work is done by contractors. The Department of Labor recently dropped an investigation into whether Scale was misclassifying and underpaying these workers.
The company pulled in $870 million last year and expects $2 billion in revenue this year.
Meta was already part of Scale AI’s $1 billion Series F round, which valued the startup at $13.8 billion. Scale also built Defense Llama, a military-focused large language model, on Meta’s Llama 3 platform.
