Meta is building a new AI research lab focused on "superintelligence" and onboarding Alexandr Wang, CEO of Scale AI, per The New York Times.
The company is pursuing AI that surpasses human intelligence. Alongside this, Meta is in advanced talks to invest over $10 billion in Scale AI, Bloomberg reports.
Scale AI declined to comment. Meta didn’t respond to CNBC’s request for comment. 
This is Meta’s latest move to compete in AI. The firm plans to spend up to $65 billion on AI infrastructure this year.
Last month, Meta announced its AI assistant hits one billion monthly active users across its apps. In February, CNBC reported Meta would launch a standalone Meta AI app and test a paid subscription similar to ChatGPT’s rivals.
Meta shares rose about 1% on Tuesday.
Mark Zuckerberg is also said to be personally recruiting a 50-strong AI team as part of the push.
