Lockheed Martin has launched “AI Fight Club,” a new initiative aimed at testing AI algorithms for military applications. Announced on June 3 by John Clark, Lockheed’s senior VP of technology, the program creates a virtual battleground for air, land, sea, and space operations.

The initiative comes as the Pentagon accelerates its AI adoption, especially with competitors like China investing heavily in autonomous weaponry. Clark emphasized, “AI technology is penetrating every aspect of warfare… We need a test and evaluation ground for these new AI inventions.”

Initially set up for Lockheed’s own algorithms, the platform is now open to smaller vendors lacking the capital for full Pentagon-grade evaluations. “They can now connect in and tie into our AI Fight Club environment,” Clark stated.

Participants will utilize government-approved models in complex, realistic scenarios, from space surveillance to homeland defense. The platform will adhere to Department of Defense standards to ensure the relevance of results for national security.

Clark added, “We’re inviting anybody to get their AI up against the government environment.” To protect IP, the initiative promises confidentiality akin to the film “Fight Club,” but allows teams to publish findings.

Lockheed aims to identify potential suppliers through AI Fight Club, distinguishing between viable tech and “glossy marketing brochures.” Head-to-head matchups will be a core feature, engaging government representatives directly with innovators.

In the coming months, Lockheed will finalize the structure based on interest. The first competitions are expected to kick off in Q4 this year.
