Fudan University just scored a major win in AI medicine by snapping up top German scientists Roland Eils and Irina Lehmann as full-time faculty. The couple joined in April, stepping right into China’s push to beef up its AI chops in healthcare.
Eils, a math PhD from Heidelberg University (1995), is a big name in computational biology and national science circles — he’s been part of the German National Academy of Sciences since 2018. His resume is packed: past roles include leading the German Cancer Research Centre, running health data science at Heidelberg University Hospital, and founding the Centre of Digital Health at Berlin’s Charité University of Medicine.
This move puts Fudan right in the spotlight as it aims to push medical AI forward with heavy-hitter brainpower.
Roland Eils and Irina Lehmann’s appointments mark a new chapter for Fudan in rivaling global AI-in-medicine efforts.
