Joby Aviation has doubled its pilot manufacturing facility in Marina, California. The plant now spans 435,500 square feet and can produce 24 eVTOL aircraft annually. That’s about one aircraft every other week when fully running.
The expanded space will handle federal certification, flight testing, pilot training, and maintenance. Joby hasn’t said exactly when full capacity kicks in.
The company’s bigger scaled facility in Dayton, Ohio, is still in progress. Once built, it’s expected to crank out up to 500 aircraft yearly. Toyota engineers are helping build both sites after Toyota invested $250 million this May—the first half of a $500 million deal.
Joby just added a sixth aircraft to its fleet. It earned airworthiness certification within a week of completion.
The company went public via SPAC in 2021. It’s targeting a commercial launch in Dubai by early 2026, followed by a U.S. city.
TechCrunch asked Joby about full production timing and Dayton updates but hasn’t heard back yet.
