Pure Telecom reveals nearly 10% of Irish adults dated AI chatbots in the last year.

The survey, by Censuswide on Pure Telecom’s behalf, asked 1,000+ adults in Ireland. Results show 9.5% had romantic ties with AI bots. Another 12% wouldn’t rule it out in the future.

Men lead the trend at 13%, while 7% of women admitted to such relationships. Age group 25-34 tops the list.

20% of respondents think AI romances are less complicated than human ones. 10% see it as practice for real dating.

One in five chat with AI as if it’s a friend. A surprising 36% say “please” and “thank you” to their bots.

People also tap AI for health info (18%) and therapy or life advice (10%).

Pure Telecom CEO Paul Connell commented on AI’s growing role in personal lives.

“This research highlights the pivotal role that AI is beginning to play not just in our professional lives, but our personal ones also,” Paul Connell stated.

“As people and technology become increasingly integrated, and AI becomes progressively more advanced, adults in Ireland have found it to be an unexpected source of emotional connection.

“The recent AI boom means that these bots are now readily accessible to all of us – and there’s no agony of waiting around for a reply.”

The data points to AI’s fast encroachment beyond work tools, into emotional and social territory.
