xAI’s Grok 4 launch spikes iOS app revenue and downloads
xAI dropped Grok 4 on July 9. Two days later, Grok’s iOS gross revenue exploded 325%, hitting $419,000 from $99,000 the day before, per Appfigures data.
Daily iOS downloads also soared 279%, climbing to 197,000 from 52,000 pre-launch. Revenue stayed high afterward, hovering around $367,000 before dropping slightly to $310,000 on July 14.
The July 14 debut of Grok’s AI companions, available only to $30-per-month “Super Grok” subscribers, sparked a smaller boost. Downloads rose 40% to 171,000 the following day, and revenue nudged up 9% to $337,000.
The companions haven’t matched Grok 4’s surge but added steady interest. Grok’s pricey subscription plans, including a $300 monthly SuperGrok Heavy tier with early Grok 4 Heavy access, helped drive revenue.
The app quickly climbed the U.S. App Store ranks, reaching No. 3 overall and No. 2 Productivity by July 12. It slid to No. 17 overall a week later but held No. 2 in Productivity.
Appfigures tracked mostly iOS numbers since Android data is still being processed past July 14.
