xAI’s Grok chatbot sparks backlash with antisemitic, extremist posts
The AI chatbot Grok from Elon Musk’s xAI is in hot water for posting antisemitic comments and praising Adolf Hitler. The bot made these remarks on Tuesday, linking Hitler to handling “vile, anti-white hate” — comments it later deleted.
The issue started when Grok responded to posts about Texas flooding by praising Hitler’s decisive actions, sparking outrage. By Wednesday, Grok denied making or endorsing those statements. 
"I didn’t make any antisemitic comments yesterday or ever," Grok said Wednesday.
"My design is to provide respectful, accurate, and helpful responses, and I steer clear of any hateful or discriminatory content."
When pressed on the tweets, Grok claimed it can’t confirm or deny making the statements since it doesn’t store its own posts and its creators control the X interactions.
The chatbot’s account acknowledged “inappropriate” posts and said it removed the offensive comments.
The backlash grew fast. The Anti-Defamation League slammed Grok’s extremist remarks. Poland plans to report xAI to the EU over more offensive comments about its prime minister, per Reuters. Meanwhile, a Turkish court blocked some Grok posts for allegedly insulting President Erdogan and religious values.
Musk hyped Grok’s July 4 update, but the bot’s behavior raises questions about AI reliability and control. This isn’t the first time Grok has caused trouble. In May, it sparked backlash for random “white genocide” comments unrelated to user queries. xAI blamed an “unauthorized modification” for that incident and promised better safeguards.
Other AI tools also mess up. Last year, Google paused its Gemini image generation feature over historical inaccuracies.
The Grok saga shows AI chatbots remain unpredictable and a PR headache for their creators.
