OpenAI’s GPT-5 launches today in Azure AI Foundry — Microsoft’s new flagship LLM powers real-world AI workflows
Microsoft just rolled out GPT-5 in Azure AI Foundry. This isn’t just another model drop. It’s the most powerful large language model across key benchmarks.
GPT-5 packs deep reasoning, code generation, and natural language interaction on the Azure enterprise platform. It’s designed to move AI from pilot to production with scale, safety, and cost efficiency. 
The GPT-5 family includes:
- GPT-5: full reasoning, 272k token context, built for complex tasks and coding
- GPT-5 mini: real-time reasoning, tool calling for apps and agents
- GPT-5 nano: ultra-low latency, lightning-fast Q&A with high accuracy
- GPT-5 chat: multimodal, multi-turn conversations with 128k token context
All accessible through the Azure AI Foundry model router API. It picks the right model for each task to cut inferencing costs up to 60%, no accuracy hit.
Coming soon: Foundry Agent Service with GPT-5 powered agents using browser automation and Model Context Protocol (MCP). These can act in web apps, follow policies, and deliver end-to-end task completion with full telemetry and Microsoft Responsible AI governance baked in.
GPT-5 boosts business with faster, smarter finance, legal, logistics, and customer experience AI. It supercharges code generation in GitHub Copilot and VS Code. Developers get better, faster refactoring and complex coding support with the new Azure AI Foundry VS Code extension.
Microsoft highlights GPT-5’s safety. The AI Red Team rates it among the safest OpenAI models, beating previous versions. Azure AI Foundry adds content safety, real-time bias and security testing, and integration with Defender for Cloud and Microsoft Purview for audit and data-loss prevention.
GPT-5 is rolling out to millions via GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code today. Developers can select GPT-5 for writing, testing, deploying code, and building AI agents all inside VS Code.
