Google rolled out an AI-powered business calling feature to all US users, the company announced Wednesday. The AI calls local businesses for you to collect pricing and availability info without making you pick up the phone.
The feature launched in January for users in Google Search Labs experiments, now hitting mainstream. Search for “pet groomers near me” and you can tap “Have AI check pricing.” You answer questions about your pet and preferred service. The AI calls businesses then delivers the info.
A Google spokesperson told TechCrunch in an email that every call to a business begins by announcing that it’s an automated system calling from Google on behalf of a user.
Google had backlash in the past over a Duplex AI calling feature that sounded human. After concerns about misleading recipients, it committed to clear robot disclosure on calls.
This rollout starts with all US Search users. Subscribers to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra get higher usage limits.
Also, Google Search’s AI Mode is getting a boost. The Gemini 2.5 Pro model, aimed at advanced reasoning, math, and coding, is now available to Pro and Ultra users via a dropdown.
Google added a new “Deep Search” feature too. It runs hundreds of queries and synthesizes detailed, fully cited reports in minutes. Ideal for deep research on jobs, hobbies, studies, and big decisions like buying a house or financial analysis.
Since AI Mode launched this year, Google has been expanding it to rival ChatGPT Search and Perplexity AI. Last month, voice conversations arrived. In May, AI-powered shopping with product visuals went live.
