Google is pushing its latest AI search tool, AI Mode, front and center. On Tuesday, Google’s homepage and Chrome browser landing pages featured an animated Doodle. Clicking it takes users straight to AI Mode, which is also shareable via a button on the image.

The launch follows growing pressure from AI startups like OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), and Perplexity AI, pushing Google to spotlight its AI capabilities. AI Mode answers complex questions using text, voice, or images, powered by Google’s Gemini AI model.

The tool rolled out more broadly across the U.S. after debuting alongside search result pages in March. Google says AI Mode lets users get AI-powered answers often needing several searches before.

In May, Google tested placing AI Mode directly below the search bar, replacing the rarely changed “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.

“Search whatever’s on your mind and get AI-powered responses,” Google says on the homepage link.
