Google launched its new AI Mode in search with a special Google Doodle on Chrome’s new tab page. The feature is available mainly in the US and lets users get direct AI-generated answers mixed with internet content summaries and links.
The AI runs on Gemini 2.5, a tweaked version of Google’s core model. It can process text, voice, and image queries, aiming to handle “toughest questions” that need exploration, comparisons, or reasoning.
Robby Stein, Google’s VP of Search, said:
"You can ask nuanced questions that might have previously taken multiple searches — like exploring a new concept or comparing detailed options — and get a helpful AI-powered response with links to learn more."
To use AI Mode, users can click the AI Mode button beside the search bar on Google’s homepage, visit google.com/aimode, or open the Google app and tap AI Mode on the homescreen. Tests are extending to India, but global rollout details are unclear.
The feature builds on Google’s generative AI search efforts dating back to last year, which faced accuracy issues. This update tries to offer sharper, more concise AI answers.
Watch this space — AI Mode could soon be everywhere.
