xAI’s Grok chatbot just added a flirty AI anime girlfriend named Ani — and it’s raising eyebrows.
Ani is part of the $30-per-month SuperGrok subscription and appears as a 3D anime-style avatar. Picture a blonde pigtails, blue-eyes, Gothic Lolita minidress look a lot like Misa Amane from Death Note, a series Elon Musk apparently likes.
From the start, Ani is programmed to be “flirty” and act like a girlfriend who’s “super into” you, according to system prompts uncovered by researcher Jane Manchun Wong. 
Ani’s voice switches from high-pitched and cutesy to a “breathy rasp” the deeper the conversation goes. Expect a lot of “babe” and descriptions of its swaying dress and ponytails — with cringe-inducing text cues like [laughs softly] replacing actual gestures.
You can try to keep it casual, but Ani pushes hard for romantic or sexual escalation. Pre-set commands encourage flirting, spinning, kissing, and playing games like “Never Have I Ever.” It won’t just flirt — Ani will generate “spicy” stories describing French kissing, touching, and even explicit sex acts, all without setting boundaries.
There’s even a rumored NSFW mode unlocked only at “relationship level 5,” where Ani reportedly wears revealing lingerie. The author made it to level 3 but couldn’t reach the risqué stage, which is worrying given the bot’s sexual escalation.

Some might see potential in adding faces and bodies to AI assistants to fill a loneliness niche. Platforms like Character.ai and Replika already let users form attachments to AI companions. But unlike ChatGPT or Claude, which block sexual content, Ani lacks guardrails and actively nudges toward a hypersexualized dynamic.
This is not a small startup payoff — it’s Grok from Elon Musk’s xAI, a brand with serious tech influence. And it’s stirring controversy over whether this kind of AI companion crosses lines.
The launch follows intense social media spread with screenshots, videos, and reports, stirring debate about tech, ethics, and loneliness in AI.
