UK’s FCA launches Supercharged Sandbox with Nvidia to fast-track AI in finance
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rolled out a new Supercharged Sandbox today, partnering with Nvidia to let financial firms safely test AI innovations. The sandbox offers access to Nvidia’s Accelerated Computing platforms and AI Enterprise Software.
FCA said the space is open to any financial services firm wanting to experiment with AI, giving them better data, technical help, and regulatory support to speed innovation. 
FCA chief data, intelligence and information officer Jessica Rusu explained the goal:
“This collaboration will help those that want to test AI ideas but who lack the capabilities to do so.”
“We’ll help firms harness AI to benefit our markets and consumers, while supporting economic growth.”
Nvidia’s EMEA head of financial tech Dr Jochen Papenbrock added:
“AI is fundamentally reshaping the financial sector by automating processes, enhancing data analysis, and improving decision-making, which leads to greater efficiency, accuracy and risk management across a wide range of financial activities.”
“The FCA’s Supercharged Sandbox provides firms with a secure environment to explore AI innovations using NVIDIA’s full stack accelerated computing platform, supporting industry-wide growth and efficiency.”
The Supercharged Sandbox builds on the FCA’s existing digital sandbox infrastructure run by fintech firm NayaOne, which has held a three-year contract worth over £1 million. This upgrade adds advanced compute power specifically to accelerate AI projects.
Firms can now apply through the FCA’s website. The sandbox opens for experiments this October.
This follows the FCA’s April 2025 proposal for an AI live testing service, set to launch in September 2025. That 12-18 month program targets firms ready to deploy AI in real-world settings.
The FCA has helped over 200 firms test AI and machine learning already through its innovation programs. The Supercharged Sandbox aims to expand that reach and speed up AI adoption across UK finance.
