Tesla cars dominate the 2025 American-Made Index, sweeping the top four spots. The annual ranking from Cars.com measures how much of a vehicle is built and bought in the U.S. This year’s standout: the Tesla Model 3, crowned the most American-made vehicle sold in the country.
Electric vehicles are taking over. Six of the top ten spots went to EVs. Besides Tesla, the Kia EV6 and Volkswagen ID4 snagged 6th and 10th place. The EV6, made in Georgia, boasts 80% U.S. and Canadian parts—the highest of any car on the list.
Cars.com used five key factors: final assembly location, parts origin, engine and transmission origin, and U.S. manufacturing workforce. Over 400 vehicles from the 2025 model year were studied, with 99 making the cut. Notably, heavy-duty EVs like the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1S didn’t qualify.
More EVs made the list this year—11 battery-electric models including the Ford F-150 Lightning, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV9 SUV. Another 19 are hybrids or plug-in hybrids. Cars.com called this proof the push for electrification is real, not just talk.
The big question now: will tariffs, rising prices, and the likely end of federal EV tax credits stall this surge?
