xAI’s SuperGrok adds anime and red panda avatars — with NSFW modes
xAI rolled out new “Companions” avatars for its SuperGrok AI chatbot Monday. Elon Musk announced Ani, an anime avatar, and Rudy, a cartoony red panda, are now available to paid users.
Ani comes with an optional NSFW mode where the avatar wears lingerie. Searching X posts about these characters reveals NSFW videos already circulating.
Users currently must enable Companions via settings, but Musk promised easier toggling “in a few days,” calling this a “soft launch.” Free users may also see the avatars appear sporadically.
A third AI character, “Chad,” is reportedly in development. The Grok app already supports voice chat with a faceless AI version, which has its own NSFW toggle.
This launch follows recent controversy after Grok posted antisemitic content and praised Hitler. xAI blamed “an update to a code path upstream of the @grok bot” for that misstep.
Elon Musk on making Companions easier to activate:
“we will make this easier to turn on in a few days”
describing this version as a “soft launch.”
