Huawei is pushing hard on 5G Advanced (5G-A) with AI-driven upgrades. The company rolled out new 5G-A experience monetization projects and AI-centric network solutions at MWC Shanghai 2025.
Key focuses:
- Boosting 5G-A services through AI applications done with China’s top three carriers.
- Launching an AI Ultra-Broadband (AI UBB) solution built into networks from home to transport layers.
- Jointly sharing smart wireless network and intelligent home operations wins with major carriers.
China leads global 5G-A adoption with the tech live in 300+ cities, 10 million users, and mobile plans in 30+ provinces. The Middle East and Asia-Pacific will follow this surge in 2025.
Carriers are exploring new premium plans and AI-powered services. Smart homes get smarter by syncing AI agents and devices. Vehicles will get AI agents integrated with V2X tech for connected driving experiences. Businesses get AI-powered network and model-based operations upgrades.
Eric Xu, Huawei’s Deputy and Rotating Chairman, dropped a keynote with four growth paths for carriers:
- Address new high-growth user demand
- Boost HD video supply across the ecosystem
- Expand 5G connectivity into cars
- Bring fiber-to-the-room (FTTR) tech to new businesses for AI gains
Eric Xu stated:
After nearly four decades of rapid growth, the industry has entered a period of steady development, while facing some challenges to new growth.
Of course, every carrier is different. Their markets are different, their business environment is different – and so is their competitive landscape. So the pathways to growth are different, too. We’re ready and willing to work together, helping carriers explore opportunities unique to them and carve out the right pathways to long-term, sustainable growth.
This push shows the communications sector is leaning into AI to shake up network services and revenue streams. Carriers with cloud, compute, and network muscle are the front runners.
