Reliance Industries just launched a new AI push with its freshly minted subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence. The goal: build India’s national AI backbone. This was announced at Reliance’s 48th AGM by Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man.

Reliance is teaming up with Google Cloud to build AI cloud infrastructure in India, starting with a data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This dedicated region will support AI services for enterprises, developers, and government, leveraging Jio’s network and energy assets.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent a video message praising the partnership.

“As Reliance’s largest public cloud partner, Google Cloud is not only powering the company’s mission-critical workloads, but we are also innovating with you on advanced AI initiatives,”
Sundar Pichai stated.
“This is only the beginning.”

The financial terms of the Google deal remain undisclosed.

Reliance also sealed a joint venture with Meta, backed by a ₹8.55 billion (~$100 million) investment with a 70:30 split. The aim: offer Meta’s Llama-based enterprise AI as a platform service in India and some international markets. Businesses get AI tools for sales, marketing, IT, customer service, and finance.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented on the move.

“Through this joint venture, we’re putting Meta’s Llama models into real-world use,”
Mark Zuckerberg stated.

The Meta partnership is expected to close in Q4 2025, pending approvals.

Reliance is reportedly eyeing a deal with OpenAI too, with talks hinting at an announcement during Sam Altman’s India visit next month. OpenAI recently launched a ChatGPT subscription under $5 in India and plans a New Delhi office.

Reliance’s rival Bharti Airtel recently partnered with Perplexity to offer AI tools to 360 million subscribers.

Reliance already has a Microsoft Azure cloud deal and offers JioAICloud with 100GB free storage, boasting 40 million users.

New AI features hitting Reliance’s streaming giant JioHotstar include a “Riya” voice assistant and AI-driven content translation, lip-syncing, and voice-cloning tech for Indian languages. JioFrames smart glasses also joined the lineup, mirroring Snap and Meta’s smart eyewear.

Ambani confirmed that Jio Platforms is prepping for an IPO in early 2026 and aims for international expansion.

This AI ramp-up puts Reliance at the forefront of India’s AI race. The key players—Google, Meta, and potentially OpenAI—are now locked in with India’s biggest conglomerate.
