Greptile is raising a $30 million Series A at a $180 million valuation. Benchmark partner Eric Vishria is leading the round, sources tell TechCrunch. The deal isn’t closed yet and terms could shift, according to one insider.
The AI code review startup was founded by Daksh Gupta after graduating from Georgia Tech in 2023. Greptile went through Y Combinator’s winter 2024 batch and raised a $4 million seed led by Initialized Capital post-program.
Greptile’s AI acts like an experienced coworker, deeply understanding customer code to spot bugs human reviewers miss, Gupta said last year.
The code review space is crowded. Greptile rivals include Graphite, fresh off a $52 million Series B led by Accel with Anthropic and a16z backing, and Coderabbit, which raised a $16 million Series A from CRV last year.
The competition is fierce. Greptile’s work culture has taken a hit. Gupta, 22, posted on X in November that the startup “offers no work-life-balance.” Staff usually work 9 am to 11 pm, six or seven days a week.
Gupta later told Inc. that beating rivals demands “maximum effort” from all staff.
"No one cares about the third-best company, or even the second-best company in any category in software. If you’re going to put in 95 percent effort, it’s the equivalent of putting in 0 percent effort.”
Greptile and Benchmark didn’t respond to requests for comment.
The startup’s grueling hours may sting, but locking down Benchmark at this valuation could jumpstart its fight to stay relevant in the AI code review arms race.
