Apple is rolling out new AI controls for enterprise customers in its September update. Businesses can now configure access to an enterprise version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The update doesn’t just lock down ChatGPT. IT admins can restrict or allow any external AI provider, leaving room for Apple to work with other AI companies without changing protocols.
Apple has integrated ChatGPT enterprise tools as demand grows—OpenAI reports over 5 million business customers using ChatGPT for Enterprise to tap internal data via AI agents.
The new controls let businesses decide if AI data processing happens in the cloud or on-device. They can also block employee ChatGPT requests, even if the company has no enterprise deal with OpenAI.
Apple also adds an API for Apple Business Manager, enabling integration with IT tools like MDM software and help desks. Device management gets easier with new migration tools, useful for M&A scenarios.
Return to Service gets an upgrade too. Devices can now be wiped and prepped for new users without reinstalling apps. Plus, Apple’s Vision Pro joins the roster for this feature.
Shared Macs gain Guest Mode, letting employees log in with identity provider credentials. Data gets wiped on logout, but apps remain. NFC login via watch or phone is another new option.
All these tools drop in September, alongside iPhone, iPad, and Mac updates.
Apple is clearly pushing enterprise AI control and device management hard this fall. Enterprise IT teams will have more say over which AI features employees can use—and how.
