Anthropic Acquires Humanloop Team Amid Rising Enterprise AI Talent Competition

Anthropic has acquired the co-founders and most of the team from Humanloop in a move to boost its enterprise AI strategy.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The three Humanloop co-founders — CEO Raza Habib, CTO Peter Hayes, and CPO Jordan Burgess — plus about a dozen engineers and researchers have joined Anthropic. This is a classic acqui-hire focused on talent amid the fierce AI hiring war.

Anthropic’s rep confirmed the deal did not include Humanloop’s assets or IP. But in AI, value is largely in people. Humanloop brought expertise in prompt management, LLM evaluation, and observability — crucial tools for enterprises running AI safely and reliably at scale.

Brad Abrams, Anthropic’s API product lead, said:

“Their proven experience in AI tooling and evaluation will be invaluable as we continue to advance our work in AI safety and building useful AI systems.”

Anthropic is rapidly expanding its enterprise offerings, adding features like longer context windows to enhance model capability. The move comes as Anthropic just inked a deal to sell its AI services to US government agencies for $1 per agency during the first year, undercutting OpenAI.

Humanloop, founded in 2020 as a UCL spinout, went through Y Combinator and Fuse Incubator and raised $7.91M seed funding led by YC and Index Ventures. Its clients included Duolingo, Gusto, and Vanta. Last month, Humanloop announced it would shut down ahead of the acquisition.

This acquisition strengthens Anthropic’s foothold in AI safety, monitoring, and bias mitigation — key to winning over enterprise and government customers demanding robust compliance tools.

Raza Habib, Humanloop’s former CEO, said:

“From our earliest days, we’ve been focused on creating tools that help developers build AI applications safely and effectively.”

“Anthropic’s commitment to AI safety research and responsible AI development perfectly aligns with our vision.”
