Alibaba launched the Quark AI glasses, its first foray into the smart glasses market. The product was shown publicly for the first time on Saturday. Development is complete, with an official launch planned for later this year, but no exact date was given.
Local rivals like Rokid and Xreal have been pushing out smart glasses recently. Alibaba also partnered with AR glasses maker RayNeo earlier this year for AI support on RayNeo’s hardware.
Song Gang, head of smart terminal business at Alibaba’s Intelligent Information group, said this about the new product:
AI glasses will become the most important form of wearable intelligence – it will serve as another pair of eyes and ears for humans.
Alibaba is aggressively expanding its AI footprint. The company committed to investing $53 billion in AI infrastructure over three years starting in February.
The Quark glasses will leverage Alibaba’s proprietary Qwen AI model series. Alibaba turned Quark from a search and cloud storage tool into an “all-in-one AI assistant” in March.
