ChatGPT smashed AI traffic records with 5.5 billion visits in May 2025. That’s around 80% of all global generative AI traffic—twice the combined visits of Google’s Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Perplexity, and Claude.

Over 500 million weekly users and 250 million mobile app users last fall make ChatGPT the go-to AI assistant worldwide.

A brief dip early this year didn’t stick. OpenAI bounced back fast, helped by its Microsoft partnership. Unlike rivals chasing fancy benchmarks, ChatGPT nailed accessibility and usefulness.

Chinese startup DeepSeek exploded from 33.7 million users in January to 436 million visits in May. It’s growing fast in Asia using cheaper Nvidia chips.

Google’s Gemini lags with 527 million visits. Claude, backed by Amazon and Google, barely clears 100 million despite high reasoning scores.

Old platforms like Chegg, Quora, and Fiverr are bleeding users. Meanwhile, code completion, voice, and automation AI tools are on the rise.

OpenAI isn’t just ahead. It’s miles in front. The race now is who finishes second.
