Tesla just dropped its fourth “Master Plan” – and it’s all talk, no real action. The plan talks big on humanoid robots and sustainable energy but skips concrete details.
CEO Elon Musk even admitted as much on X:
“This Master Plan is vague, and it’s fair to criticize the lack of specifics. We’ll add more later.”
The last few plans laid out clear goals. Master Plan 2 from 2016 promised a scalable solar roof and new EV models like the semi truck and Cybertruck. Solar roof rollout has stalled. Semi and Cybertruck are behind schedule or missed sales targets. Full self-driving is nowhere near done either, despite years of promises and hardware changes that’ll leave many cars behind.
Tesla’s third plan went deep into sustainability with a 41-page white paper. Results? Mixed at best. Meanwhile, Musk spent $300 million backing a president fighting clean energy.
Tesla is now pushing the “AI and robotics company” label, but most revenue still comes from EVs. The fourth plan leans hard into optimism but offers no timeline or benchmarks. The first two plans at least had Musk pitching in with details. Not this time.
And Musk chose to publish this fuzzy plan on a federal holiday while spamming divisive posts on X.
Tesla’s Master Plan 4 sounds more like wishful thinking than a roadmap to delivery. Stay tuned for the details Tesla says it will add… sometime.
