OpenArt just launched a new “one-click story” feature in open beta. It turns a single sentence, script, or song into a one-minute AI-generated video with a story arc. The tool offers three templates: Character Vlog, Music Video, and Explainer.
Users can start a vlog by uploading a character image and a prompt. The tool syncs animations with song lyrics when music is added. Clips are editable in storyboard mode. OpenArt’s platform combines 50+ AI models, including DALLE-3, GPT, Imagen, Flux Kontext, and Stable Diffusion.
This move aims to make AI content creation easier for anyone—from TikTok creators to YouTube producers and advertisers.
The company warns that some content risks IP infringement. Characters like Pikachu, SpongeBob, and Super Mario have slipped through despite default rejections, raising legal concerns. Disney and Universal recently sued AI firm Midjourney over similar issues.
Co-founder and CEO Coco Mao told TechCrunch OpenArt tries to block such content automatically but admits it’s not perfect.
“We try to be cautious around the IP infringement,” Coco Mao said.
“When you upload some IP characters, by default, the models we use will reject them, and it’s not able to produce the IP character, but sometimes it slips.”
OpenArt is open to licensing talks with major IP holders. The platform also prioritizes character consistency, unlike many AI video tools that produce standalone clips with inconsistent visuals and narratives.
“A problem that a lot of AI couldn’t really handle well is to have the character consistent in the same video…If you don’t have the same character, then it’s hard to get immersed in the story,” Mao added.
Future updates will allow videos with conversations between characters and a mobile app.
OpenArt runs on a credit system with four plans: $14/month for 4,000 credits, $30/month for 12,000 credits, and $56/month for 24,000 credits, plus a team plan at $35/month per user. The basic plan covers up to four one-click stories.
The startup, founded by ex-Google employees in 2022, has 3 million monthly active users, $5 million raised, and is cash-flow positive. It targets $20 million annual revenue soon.
