Renowned scientists and business leaders from the US and China are calling for urgent international cooperation on AI safety. The push comes amid worries that humanity could lose control of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence.

AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton likened AI to a “cute tiger cub” that could turn dangerous as it grows. He urged a global safety pact, comparing the need to Cold War nuclear arms agreements.

Geoffrey Hinton stated:

“No country wants AI to take over”.

“AI was akin to a ‘cute tiger cub’ kept as a pet by humans, but which could become dangerous as it matured.”

He stressed the importance of preventing this scenario through international cooperation, drawing parallels to US-Soviet collaboration on nuclear non-proliferation during the Cold War.

Yan Junjie, founder and CEO of Shanghai-based AI unicorn MiniMax, weighed in with optimism about the tech’s future.

Yan Junjie shared:

“AGI [artificial general intelligence] will undoubtedly become a reality, serving and benefiting everyone”.
