OpenAI is teaming up with the UK government to tackle AI risks. The partnership aims to boost understanding of AI’s abilities and security threats. They want to find ways to reduce those risks.
The announcement came from the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). But concerns about AI errors, hallucinations, and impersonations have been around since the start of the tech. Even AI’s founding figures warn about existential risks.
Addressing AI dangers showed up only at the very end of DSIT’s statement. That suggests safeguarding might be a lower priority than easing the UK’s financial pressures.
DSIT stated:
“OpenAI and the UK government will collaborate to improve understanding of capabilities and security risks, and to mitigate those risks.”
