Nevoya just closed a $9.3M seed round to speed up its electric trucking push. The LA-based startup runs electric trucks for 10 Fortune 500 companies in California, matching diesel truck costs. That’s a big deal in a tough market for EVs right now.
Founder Sami Khan says Nevoya isn’t just green—it’s leaner and faster thanks to AI. The AI handles route optimization, load matching, charging schedules, and battery management. It cuts errors and speeds up info flow to drivers, freeing dispatchers to focus on customers.
“When we started running the trucking business,” Khan said,
“we looked at what [everybody was] doing, and we meticulously looked at every minute-by-minute of what was going on. We came to the conclusion that 90% of what was going on could be automated or semi-automated.”
Originally planning a modest follow-up round, Khan got pushed to go big by Lowercarbon Capital’s Shawn Xu. Xu led the seed round with support from Floating Point, LMNT Ventures, Third Sphere, Stepchange, Never Lift, and Applied Intuition CEO Qasar Younis.
Nevoya is now moving into Texas, with freight runs in Houston and Dallas. The company is dealing with sparse charging infrastructure by plugging trucks into overnight chargers at passenger vehicle stations and school bus depots.
Khan says this helps partners generate revenue off-hours while Nevoya expands fast with low upfront costs. The plan is to build more dedicated chargers long-term.
Nevoya’s Texas operations will follow a startup-within-a-startup style, with general managers leading local teams competing for top results.
Xu held back at first, wanting to see cost parity with diesel. Now, he says efficiency gains and AI-driven optimization have paid off.
“They’re getting lower cost per mile. They’re getting lower maintenance costs. The AI orchestration for efficiency on the route optimization is starting to bear fruit,” Xu said. “So yeah, we ended up raising a much larger round that ended up being even more oversubscribed than we had expected. And now we’re off to the races.”
Nevoya is betting AI + EV trucks = a new carrier model ready to scale fast.
