ChatGPT is handling 2.5 billion prompts daily worldwide, OpenAI revealed to Axios. U.S. users alone send about 330 million of those queries.
That puts ChatGPT on a rocket-speed growth course. Just eight months ago, CEO Sam Altman said the AI was getting 1 billion prompts a day. Now, it’s more than doubled.
For comparison, Google’s parent company Alphabet processes about 14 billion searches daily according to their yearly report. Independent experts, like Neil Patel from NP Digital, peg Google’s daily searches closer to 13.7 billion. Other firms like SparkToro and Datos estimate it might be up to 16.4 billion.
So ChatGPT is closing the gap fast, positioning itself as a major player in the search and info space.
Sam Altman flagged this surge back in December 2024:
“users send over 1 billion queries to ChatGPT each day.”
The company’s explosive user activity is a clear sign its AI tool is becoming ubiquitous worldwide.
This rapid climb continues to challenge traditional search giants.
