Bedrock Robotics has raised $80 million to build a self-driving retrofit kit for construction and worksite vehicles. The stealthy startup, founded by former Waymo and Segment vets, announced the funding from Eclipse and 8VC.
The company is targeting construction sites with a kit that adds sensors, compute, and AI to existing fleets. The tech is designed to understand project goals, adapt to changing conditions, and keep machines working 24/7.
Co-founder and CEO Boris Sofman, who previously led Waymo’s self-driving trucks program and co-founded Anki Robotics, said in a blog post:
Bedrock is “upgrading existing fleets with sensors, compute, and intelligence that understands project goals, adapts to changing conditions, and executes work around the clock,”
Other leadership includes CTO Kevin Petersen and VPs Ajay Gummalla and Tom Eliaz, all with deep experience at Waymo, Segment, and Twilio.
Bedrock is quietly testing across Arkansas, Arizona, Texas, and California with five partners: Sundt Construction, Zachry Construction Corporation, Champion Site Prep, and Capitol Aggregates.
This move joins a growing crowd of startups aiming for off-road autonomy. Earlier this week, Pronto acquired SafeAI in the haulage and mining trucking space. Other players include Kodiak Robotics, Polymath Robotics, Overland AI, Potential, and Forterra.
TechCrunch reached out to Bedrock for more details but received no comment. Updates will follow as the story develops.
