Egypt launches 2025–2030 National AI Strategy aiming for regional dominance
The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), led by Minister Amr Talaat, has rolled out the second edition of its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2025–2030). The plan targets making Egypt a major AI hub for Africa, the Arab world, and global tech markets.
The strategy sets six pillars: Governance, Technology, Data, Infrastructure, Ecosystem, and Talent. Egypt will push AI into healthcare, education, agriculture, and public services.
Key goals for 2030:
- Boost ICT’s GDP contribution to 7.7%
- Establish 250+ AI startups
- Train over 30,000 AI specialists
The government is tightening AI regulations and data governance to secure and include more sectors.
At the same time, new partnerships are ramping up Egypt’s AI profile. French tech giant Capgemini is opening an AI Center of Excellence in Cairo, planning to double its Egyptian workforce to 1,200 by year-end. The focus is on scaling generative and agentic AI for global markets.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has formalized a pact with the government to train and certify 100,000 people in AI, including youth and civil servants. The program is already underway.
Minister Amr Talaat called the strategy a blueprint for action, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to infrastructure and talent as it eyes leadership in MENA’s digital transformation race.
"The strategy is not just a policy document, but a blueprint for action.
As the global race for AI supremacy accelerates, Egypt’s commitment to infrastructure, education, and regulatory readiness signals its intent to lead the next wave of digital transformation across the MENA region and beyond."
