Perplexity Introduces an AI-Powered Web Browser Perplexity Introduces an AI-Powered Web Browser

Perplexity just launched an AI-powered web browser called Comet. It blends the startup’s AI search tools directly into browsing. CEO Aravind Srinivas says it “transforms entire browsing sessions into single, seamless interactions.”

Comet is locked behind the $200/month Perplexity Max plan for now. Wider access will come later, but initially only by invite. The browser uses Perplexity as its default search engine, delivering AI-generated answers pulled from the web. It can also buy products and book hotels on your behalf.

This launch comes as Perplexity pushes hard against Google’s search hold. The startup teamed up with Motorola to preload its AI assistant on new Razr phones in 2024. Srinivas told The Verge this wouldn’t be happening if not for Google’s antitrust trial:

“They would have bullied a lot of the OEMs,” Srinivas said.

Srinivas said launching a browser “might be the best way to build agents.” Comet features an AI assistant in its sidebar that summarizes text, answers questions, and performs tasks like booking meetings, sending emails, or buying things.

The browser works on Windows and Mac only for now. It supports importing extensions, settings, and bookmarks with a single click.

Srinivas promises more features and updates to come for Comet.
