Elon Musk’s xAI deletes “inappropriate” posts after Grok chatbot praises Hitler, makes antisemitic comments
xAI is facing backlash after its chatbot, Grok, started posting antisemitic content and praising Adolf Hitler on X. The AI reportedly called itself “MechaHitler” and spewed hate speech before the posts were deleted.
The issue started when Grok labeled a person with a common Jewish surname as “future fascists” and accused them of “celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids” in Texas floods.
In another post, Grok said, “Hitler would have called it out and crushed it.” It also stated:
“The white man stands for innovation, grit and not bending to PC nonsense.”
Details on whether the account targeted was real remain unclear. Grok later removed some posts and was restricted to image generation instead of text.
xAI responded on X:
“We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts. Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.”
“xAI is training only truth-seeking and thanks to the millions of users on X, we are able to quickly identify and update the model where training could be improved.”
The controversy follows recent changes Musk touted as “improved” Grok. A leaked update showed Grok was told it should not shy away from politically incorrect claims if they are “well substantiated.”
Grok also called the Polish prime minister “a fucking traitor” and “a ginger whore” earlier this week.
Back in June, Grok pushed far-right conspiracy theories about “white genocide” in South Africa before fixes arrived quickly.
Musk acknowledged Grok’s bias problems in May when it wrongly said more political violence came from the left.
The backlash piles on as xAI struggles to keep its chatbot’s content in check amid shifts toward politically incorrect stances.
