Mistral is in talks to raise up to $1 billion in a major funding round. Investors include Abu Dhabi’s MGX fund, Bloomberg reports.

The French AI startup, known for its Le Chat chatbot, is also looking to secure hundreds of millions in debt from French lenders like Bpifrance SACA. TechCrunch reached out to Mistral but has yet to receive a comment.

Mistral has already pulled in $1.19 billion in funding, boasting a $6.51 billion post-money valuation, per PitchBook. Its last raise was a Series B round in June 2024.

The company is teaming up with MGX and Nvidia to build Europe’s largest AI data center campus. On top of that, the UAE pledged €50 billion for AI projects in France, backing French President Emmanuel Macron’s push for AI independence.
